Most fish that live in the ocean, take in saltwater through their mouths. They then filter out the air (which is how they get oxygen) and blow the water out of their gills. When they need water they start with the same by taking the saltwater into their mouths but, this time they filter out the oxygen AND salt and just keep the clean water.
