You can trim a gerbils nails with a pair of baby fingernail clippers, very very carefully looking to make sure you do not trim too much off and get the pink inside part of the nail (the quick) if you cut too short it will be painfull and bleed. Even regular adult fingernail clippers will do as long as you are careful. Also watch that you do not get the other toes in the blade or a very tramatic amputation could happen and possible death from bloodloss.
You don't have to. They will dig in something and that will trim the a little. You can hirt them if you clip their nail in the wrong spot.
Yes, but not very often. Gerbils usually shorten their claws by running around and digging. However, when they get older, the gerbils will be less active and the claws (and the teeth) will overgrow and you might have to cut/file the claws away.
NO YOU IDIOT
give them something to claw on or scratch
No, they wear down naturally.

Give them things to scratch on like thick peaces of cardboard personally my gerbils scratch the side of the plastic bottom of the cage and that keeps their nails short bless.
There is no reason to not cut your nails on Saturday.
