One way to earn experience quickly is by hunting metal slimes. They can be found in the Quarantomb, the Bad Cave, the Bowhole and certain grottos. Metal slimes are not like other monsters because they only take 1 point of damage from most attacks, they have only a few HP, they run away a lot, attacks on them miss a lot and they can't be affected by spells. They give a lot of experience if you catch and kill one though!

Also remember that higher level characters gain more experience than lower level characters, and that experience is split among your party.
