Depends on what you mean.
If they dive, they have to hold their breath just like any other diving mammal.
But since they have their nostrils on top of their snouts, they can keep everything apart the top of their heads underwater, and still breathe normally
They can not breathe underwater. They are just capable of holding their breath for long periods of time. Much like a whale they have to come up for air eventually.
They can hold their breath for ages
No, they have the ability to hold their breath for long periods of time. (ie. whales, dolphins, etc.)
Hippos can't breathe entirely under water. They have perfectly ordinary lungs to breathe with, so to dive they have to hold their breath. However, hippos, like many semi-aquatic animals, have their nostrils placed well on top of their snouts, so they can breathe just fine with only the top of their heads above the surface.
Hippos are born under water, they can stay submerged for extended periods.
Hippos can't "breath" underwater but they can hold their breath for long periods of time.
because they can not breath under water that long? because they can not breath under water that long?
gills-breath under water no gills-can't breath under water
Dolphins don t breath under water. Mammals breath air. Every 15 min they go out of the water to breath
wasps can hold their breath for 30 minetesby the way i like hippos and eat ice cream and .........im single
they breath with their gills
Hippos have lungs, just like you and I. And lungs don't work if you try to breathe water. When diving they hold their breath.. To breathe water, an animals need gills - like a fish - or some similar structure.
for about six minutes
