The general idea of keeping historic buildings is to preserve the past, allowing people to see things as they once were.

There are, however, many downsides to keeping historic buildings standing. They often become run down and potentially dangerous due to falling pieces and health hazards. They also take space where a modern housing complex or medical centre could stand.
