That's part of the food chain. Whales are helpful to humans because they eat thousands of sharks per day. They are so big that the can even eat the biggest shark, the great white shark. Whales sometimes swim near estuaries and eat crocodiles as well. Most scientists believe that not many people could survive a shark or a crocodile attack. Recently, humans have been hunting sharks and crocodiles in order to protect themselves when there are no whales around.

For years the Inuit and other cultures have relied on whales of various types for sustenance (meat) fuel (blubber, or fat) and clothing and living spaces (skin). Many often used the bones for beads or other decorative purposes. Even the membrane many whales eat through was used as a tool.

In modern society, scientists have made extensive study of whales and their songs, which differ from whale to whale, and often between area and time as well. Efforts have been made within and without the scientific community to preserve the species from whaling boats that catch them (see the above mentioned reasons to catch a whale)

Are killer whales threats to humans?

No but there are some cases of killer whales (Orca whales) attacking people and some of their trainers. Killer whales are very friendly mammals to humans because they are not threats to humans like humans are threats to them. Some killer whales attacked people by accidents, not on purpose. The human race had treated te killer whales very badly because humans killed more and more killer whales than killer whales that had killed humans before. Some killer whales were escaping from human harrassments. They are extremely intelligent ocean mammals and they also save more and more human lives from shark attacks.
