sounds like a turn signal switch is shorted
i have a 1990 Toyota corolla and my blinker wont turn left or right on its own I have to do it manualy i think its been cut off what do i need to buy to fix the problem
AnswerTo fix it do this : say the drivers side blinker goes on and does not flash. Well then you have either the front or rear blinker burned out. Thx KBThere's the possibility of burned bulbs, but if both sides fail to blink, replace the flasher unit.
If the blinker is not working on a Mazda 121, check the turn signal flasher. If the bulb needs to be replaced, remove the lens cover and insert a new bulb.
you need to replace the flasher can in your vehicle there are 2 of these. 1 for the blinker and 1 for the hazards so make sure you replace correct one, they cost about 3 buccks and anyone can do it
try to check the horizontal transistor
Fix the problem then you can clear the code.
change the cancel spring in the steering column or take it to the garage of your choice.
Replace the bulb, it has two filiments/ One for the tail, one for the turn.
If you are saying you have to manually turn the blinker on and off by hand, then the flasher relay is bad. If you are saying you have to hold the turn signal lever in position and it does work and flashes on and off by doing this, then the turn signal lever is broken inside and needs replacing.
If you have the same problem I did, it is a fairly easy fix. The blinker assembly has a tab on it. When your steering shaft rotates, a cam on the steering shaft pushes this tab and resets the blinker. On my TJ, the tab was broken. I bought a new blinker assembly for around $30 and replaced it myself. It is simple to do. I watched a video on youtube that showed how to do it (I could have done it without the video). Works fine now.
Well it ussually means that it is dead but if not then its probably broken.
Replace the flasher relay.
