cheack the wireing
your problem could be in the switch its self. unfortunetly they are expensive to replace, i had to actually wire a switch direct to the blinker system.
The two first things to check are the fuse and the blinker capacitor. Both can be replaced very inexpensively.
You can't
I think that someone is pulling your leg. There is no such thing as 'blinker fluid'. Sure, it's right next to the muffler bearings :)
I had the same problem with my Grand Am and there is a recall on the ignition switch. I had to take the vehicle to an authorized GM dealer and they replaced it for me at no cost.
There is a recall on the blinker module. supposedly the solder joints crack with temperature changes and GM has issued a recall on certain models of Grand-am, Malibu... so check with your local GM dealer...
in the fuse block. it should tell you on the fuse block which is which blinker fuses are usually big and have a metal covering.
the reverse switch in the transmission
There are several warning lights on a 1997 Grand Am. Some of the warning lights are the ABS system, oil lights, and the check engine light.
how do you replace backup lights on 99 grand am?
My mechanic told me it cost about $500. I have spent $1100 on a left blinker.(This does not include the junction block.) They finally said it was the junction block. The blinker works but other things don't. Now I am getting the runnaround about a new one that is on back order.
the blinker relay is probably bad
