If the tambour (which is the roll-top itself) is split into 2 pieces like you said, you're going to have to remove the top (the part with 2 sides with grooves) from the desk surface, slide the roll-top out of the grooves, and glue both pieces of the broken roll-top to a piece of thick fabric (canvas, denim, etc.) with contact adhesive.
