"Gas it up and pull the cord" There's a little more to it. I'll assume that you have put properly mixed oil and gas in the tank.

Make sure that you have the start lanyard attached to the kill button. This is a small circular plastic device that holds the kill switch out so that the motor will run. It usually has a red coiled lanyard with a clip attached. You can get a replacement at marine stores, if yours is lost.

Put the throttle (left hand slider) in the start position, slightly above the turtle.

Put the choke (right hand slider) all the way up.

Set the gas valve (just under the left hand side of the motor cover) in the on (down) position.

Open the white plastic vent on the top of the gas cap, all the way.

Now pull the cord, gently until you feel resistance, and then firmly.
