Iguanodon were very large herbivores, growing to between 33 and 43 feet long and weighing 3.5 tons. Their large size would have defended them from smaller predators. If they were attacked by a large theropod, they probably would have run away on their hind legs if possible. The top speed of an Iguanodon running bipedally is estimated to be 15 miles per hour. In the case that an Iguanodon was cornered, it may have attempted to defend itself by striking with its long, sharp thumb claws.
