You cant join the British Army unless you are a citizen of either Britain or a commonwealth country. An American would have to live in the UK for 5 years and then apply for citizenship before joining the British Army.

∙ 10y agoIn order to join the British Army, you first must meet a number of requirements: you need to be at least 16 years old, you must pass a physical examination, and you must meet fitness standards. Furthermore, you must be a British citizen, from one of the overseas territories, a British subject under the Nationality Act (1981), a British protected person, or a citizen of the Irish Republic. You must complete an application, which is available online through the British Army website.
