Well, there are a couple ways. 1) A majority of the people who speak the language are massacered all at once, i.e. in war, in famine, or other natural causes. 2)If the language is compactly spoken in basically just one place, and that place is overruled by a person/country who speaks a different language, that ruler's language generally becomes law, and that smaller language gradually becomes spoken less and less. 3)People just choose to stop speaking it because a new, better language has come along. That's how languages die off.
