Nitrogen fixing bacteria which are symbiotic with the legume colonize via root hairs and develop nodules. These nodules then fix nitrogen from the atmosphere whilst the legume provides carbon for the bacterium.

legumes plant have roots nodules in which Rihizobium bacterira are present .this bacteria coverts atmospheric nitrogen into nitrites which can be absorbed by plants to form or to make protiens that it help in nitrogen cycle

The roots of legumes (which include peas, clover, and beans) are favorable environments for types of bacteria that can perform a process known as nitrogen fixation. This process converts nitrogen gas (N2) in an acidic environment (one with H+ ions) into ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen gas (H2).

Plants cannot use nitrogen gas to synthesize amino acids, but they can use ammonia, so the legumes indirectly enrich the soil by providing a good environment for bacteria that create ammonia.

How can you increase the fertility of soil?

Mix fertilizer into the soil.

What problems are caused by soil erosion?

floods could increase, change of landscape, loss of fertility of soil, plants wont get nutrients, loss of agriculture

How can you protect soil?

Common ways you can protect soil from erosion are by reducing soil exposure to erosive rain and wind, for example by increasing plant cover or mulching. Constructing terraces in steep land to slow down runoff water and trap soil sediments. Practicing agriculture that doesn't disturb the soil much, like minimum-tillage farming.Common ways to protect soil fertility include adding fertilizers or farm manure; planting plants that increase soil nutrient, for example legume plants; adding lime to soil that is too acidic; or just leaving a farm land fallow for a season or two helps improve fertility.

Why are manures and fertilizers added to the soil by farmers?

To increase the fertility of the soil .

What does high soil fertility mean?

The soil has everything that plants need to grow

Why does soil lose fertility?

The better question is where do soils get their fertility from? Some plant (in the legume family - peas etc) can fix nitrogen in the soil but most nutrients come from rotted plant material. In the wild plants are in a life cycle where the action of bacteria on dead plants puts the nutrients back in the soil. Soils lose their fertility when man gets involved. If we intensively farm area we don't give decomposers chance to break down dead plants - we just dig them up and plant again. Eventually all the nutrients are used up and we have to artificially fertilize the soil

What are the differences between soil fertility and soil productivity?

The difference between soil fertility and soil productivity is that soil fertility involves the soils and fertilizing them per the types of plants, crops, and soils, being used. The soil productivity has to do with the drainage of the soils, the amounts and types of fertilizers, and the progress of the plants and crops due to fertilization.

How do you increase the soil fertility?

Mix fertilizer (which can be found at all gardening stores) in with the soil.
