How do lion fish protect themselves?

They protect themselves by using their poisonous quill-like fins.

They have Dorsal spines on them which are highly venomous and break off into you and kill you for it is one of the most venomous fish on the sea floor. (its venomous not poisonous, they're both different, look them up!)

The lion fish has spined with a toxic substance on them and if you toutch them they break off and the poison enters your bloodstream and CAN kill you.
