An atom is the simplest particle of an element that still retains that element's properties. It consists of a nucleus made of protons and (usually) neutrons surrounded by "clouds" of electrons.

A molecule is a particle made up of two or more atoms that bond together by sharing electrons. A molecule can contain just one element (as in O2, a molecule with two oxygen atoms) or two or more elements ( as in CH4, 1 carbon atom, 4 hydrogen atoms).
