Most students get into USC the same way they get into other highly selective national universities. They study hard in high school and take the most challenging courses, including many AP courses if their school offers AP courses. The compile a GPA in the range of 3.6 and hopefully even higher. They score well on the SAT or ACT. (The middle 50% SAT range for incoming freshman at USC in 2009 was 1930 to 2150.) They find a subject or worthwhile activity that they are passionate about and they devote hundreds of hours to that subject or activity because they love it (and not because they are trying to impress a college admissions officer). Many hold leadership positions in their schools or communities. Many engage in countless hours of community service. A large group of students is also admitted to USC each year primarily on the basis of a talent, such as music, art, acting or filim making. However, talent alone will not get a student admitted to USC because the student still must show the capability to perform well in the challenging courses that all students are required to take at USC.
