Best Answer

People cut down the koalas' homes to make farms, logging, and urban houses.

Urban sprawl leads to koalas killed on the road and attacked by pets.

In the past, people hunted koalas and made them almost extinct; but laws were passed in the 1920s to protect koalas.

Sometimes they can make people happy because they look funny. Sometimes they can make people sad when you're holding one and they bite and scratch your face. Sometimes they don't affect people at all because most people don't actually care about koalas.

How did the First Fleet affect koalas?

Are koalas domesticated?

No. People do not keep pet koalas. This is prohibited, as they are a protected species. Some fauna sanctuaries keep koalas, and some people hold licences to care for injured wildlife (such as koalas) until they are ready to be released back into their natural environment.

How will global warming affect the koalas?

The main way in which climate change is likely to affect koalas is that the frequency and intensity of bushfires in Australia will probably increase. Bushfires, of course, kill koalas. Eucalyptus bushland will always regenerate after a bushfire - that is the way Australian native plants are designed - so, while koalas are unlikely to lose their food source anytime soon, the impact of bushfires on the koala population can be quite devastating. Koalas simply have nowhere to run and hide.

How do koalas hurt people?

Koalas do not hurt people in any way. Koalas usually avoid people, except when the dire need for water in a bushfire or heatwaves sends them automatically seeking water from people. People, on the other hand, hurt koalas in many ways. They introduce non-native species to destroy the habitat; they clear known koala bushland; they allow their unsupervised dogs to kill koalas and their unsupervised children to shoot them with air gun pellets.

Were koalas once worshipped?

Koalas still exist in the wild, but people may not "get" one. They are a protected native species in Australia.

Do koalas like people?

People like koalas for any of a number of reasons:Koalas vaguely resemble teddy bears, which is why they are often wrongly called 'koala bears'.In some animal sanctuaries, people are able to hold koalas. This means they have the opportunity to pet the koalas' soft, woolly fur, and appreciate the docility and gentleness of these creatures (under the right circumstances, as they can be aggressive).Koalas are uniquely Australian, and regarded as a national icon.

Why do people want to kill koalas?

Selfish people kill animals for their fur without any regard of the survival of the species. Further to this hunting, the habitat of koalas is limited. Some people don't actually want to kill the koalas and they don't realize they because when people cut down forests they're also cutting down their homes and food. Note: Koalas are not hunted for their fur any more. Koalas are now protected, and there is no legal trade in koala fur. The vast majority of people do not actively engage in killing koalas. Only those with no conscience might think killing koalas is good sport. Careless drivers also kill koalas when these creatures try crossing the road between trees in their home range.

How does temperature affect koalas habitat?

Koalas are northern animals and thrive at a temperature of anywhere from 10 to 37.7 degrees centigrade. Anything much over that pushes their limits and can be very harmful to their species.

Are koalas friendly?
