First, by extracting resources from the system. Using water, for example. Or cutting down trees.

Second, by adding waste products to the system. Adding pollutants to air or water. Making noise or adding lights that disturbe the natural cycles of the ecosystem.

Third, enriching the ecosystem. An example might be by addressing problems such as erosion or adding nesting infrastructures such as artificial reefs. In this example "enriching" means facilitating an ecosystem with larger varieties of life forms or helping an endangered or rare form to flourish.
