Generally, the extreme weather is the most deadly aspect of being in Antarctica.

People die from hypothermia. This can also be combined with dehydration and starvation, which can be said of explorers who died there.

When one falls to the bottom of a crevasse and is pinned there by the torso, the chest expands to inhale and when the person exhales, s/he slips deeper into the "V"of the crevasse. This ultimately squeezes the life out of a person if s/he has not already passed on from hypothermia.
