Guidance in the Word of GOD comes only by the Ministry of the Holy Spirit of GOD, the Third Member of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit of GOD has numerous functions which deal directly with man. The SPIRIT of GOD is the Comforter-Parakletos in the Greek which means an Intercessor (Advocate) and One Who is called to another's side to bring aid. HE is the SPIRIT of (the) Truth and Indwells in the heart of the Believer whom accepts CHRIST as LORD of their life (John 14:16-17). The SPIRIT of GOD reproves (convicts, convinces) the world of sin (infractions against GOD),Righteousness (JESUS, the Son of GOD is not just Righteous but is Righteousness), and Judgment (for a Thrice Holy GOD must Judge sin; has judged sin at the Cross by HIS Son CHRIST, Who took your place. JESUS can either be your Savior today or Judge tomorrow). The SPIRIT points and draws us to CHRIST, guides us into all Truth, and reveals things to come through HIS Word or Knowledge and Wisdom which lines up with HIS Word. HE glorifies JESUS, Who glorifies GOD the Father, teaches what is in the Will of the Father and shows us HIS Glory (John 16:7-15). Unredeemed, unsaved, natural man cannot receive the inspiration of the SPIRIT, illumination of the Word of GOD until he accepts CHRIST as LORD and Savior (1 Corinthians 2:10-16). If you do not know JESUS as LORD and Savior, I beg you to escape the Wrath of Hell (John 3:36) and accept HIM as LORD of your life today; it is the Best decision of Eternity that you shall ever make. JESUS said in John 14:6, "I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no one comes to the Father by through (by) Me." Just pray these words to GOD: "Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Your Precious Son Jesus Christ. I am sorry for the sins that I have committed against Your Holy Name and I repent towards JESUS CHRIST now. I pray that you wash all my sins white with the Blood of the Lamb, JESUS come into my heart. I believe that You died for my sins, was raised to Life by the Power of GOD, and I now confess You as LORD of my life. According to Your Word, Romans 10:9, 10; I am now Redeemed, I am now Blood Bought, I am now Saved! Thank You for Your Grace, Mercy, and Love. In the Name Above every name, JESUS CHRIST Who is my LORD, Amen." I encourage you to study the Word of GOD and pray daily. The Church offers extensive instruction on reading The Bible, it is covered in paragraphs 1437, 2653, 129, 2205, 1093, 1177, 133, 2653, 1154, 1480, 1482 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and in numerous other books that are offered for sale to the faithful. The Church reads extensively from the Sacred Scriptures at all the Sacraments, and, if possible (and if there is time) the priest usually offers a homily on the material read. St. Jerome was the first to point out that "ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" and he spent his life translated the Bible into Latin so that it would be available for people to read, and he wrote numerous commentaries and introductions for people.

What to do as a Christian when you don't know what to do?

Find out what to do, perhaps. Though I am not a Christian myself, I understand that Christians - as well as people of other religions - consider it important to read the Holy Scripture (in the case of Christians, that would be the Bible), as a guidance. Also, religious people in general consider it important to pray to God - once again, to find guidance.
