People get addicted to drugs for many different reasons. When it comes to Hydrocodone (also known as Vicodin), which is a prescription drug used as a pain killer, there are just as many reasons. But, I will elaborate on a few of them.

These days it has become very commonplace for someone to be prescribed opiates from their doctor for pain after surgeries, car accidents, sports injuries, etc. Because of the easy availability of these drugs, people end up taking them correctly and as their tolerance goes up, they have to take more to get the relief they need. Lets not forget that the high that any opiate gives you is an addictive feeling. Lets face it, taking a couple Vicodin makes you feel good, some people end up wanting that feeling every day. That's how it starts, next thing you know you are getting sick when you don't have any opiates around.

I got addicted to opiates myself a few years back, I got medication from my doctor for a car accident and not only did it help the pain, but I loved the feeling it gave me. An addiction can sometimes start innocently enough, so the day you wake up and don't have any of that drug, and suddenly you are getting stomach cramps, diarreah, cold sweats, aches and pains, restless legs, etc.

There is always a time where you realize that its too late and that you are mentally and physically addicted to these little pills.

Some people get addicted because they are getting them off the street and are just simply abusing them because they think that it is something fun to do.

The addiction sneaks up on you, you never realize you are addicted to something until its too late. That usually means you have run out of your drug of choice.

Once you get to this point in the addiction you start looking for your favored drug of choice elsewhere. Most hospitals and medical facilities will only prescribe so much to someone, unless that person somehow gets their doctor to sign off on an opiate therapy plan. Getting on one of these plans makes it easy to get addicted to opiates, having a steady flow of pills is nice for a while. Until your tolerance goes up, and it will. When your prescription is running out faster every month, and your appetite for the drug grows, that is usually the time that people start looking for the drug on the street, illegally.

I know these things because I lived it. I remember waking up in the morning, not having a pill and the entire mission of the day was getting that pill. Nothing else mattered, no matter if it was a family reunion, a birthday, nothing else mattered until you can get that warm, comforting feeling.

On pills, my attitude changed. I became more outgoing and talkative, and enjoyed who I was when I was high. I used to say I was putting my shields up when I was getting high, because once I was high, I became this fun guy who just wanted to party and have a good time. I didn't feel embarrassment, I felt confidant about everything I was doing. And with my shields up I knew everything was alright.

When I would come down, I would feel sick, unsure of myself, anti-social. I would lock myself in my room not wanting to talk to people, not wanting people to see me. Everything in the real world just felt overwhelming. I didn't like feeling that way, and thus the vicious cycle continued.

I've been clean for several months, and plan to stay that way. It takes time to beat an addiction and the addiction does change you as a person. No one is the same once the addiction takes hold, it takes willpower and strength of heart to drop an addiction as powerful as opiate addiction.

I told you guys here because I saw no one had answered this, but also to say to those who are addicted that there really is hope at the end of the suffering. It will not be easy, it may be painful. But, in the end, once you beat the sickness the light that was missing from your life will slowly but surely find its way back in, don't give in to the voice in the back of your mind telling you to buy that pill, or snort that pill you crushed up on your table, or even smoke the pill off your tin foil. That voice is the addiction talking and it does not want you to get clean or happy.

Think of the addiction as a little demon on your shoulder, whispering quietly in your psyche, don't listen to the demon no good will come of it.

To those of you who have never had an addiction or are dealing with a friend or family member who is addicted; it is hard to understand addiction when one has never had an addiction. When it comes to friends and family, you must be understanding but firm. Someone that is addicted may make excuses to leave at inopportune times to buy drugs. We usually don't have much of a story to give you because the idea probably just came to us. I would always use friends houses as an excuse, and it usually worked. As a drug addict, the most important thing on your list is getting the drug. Everything else comes secondary. Friends, family, significant others, all take a back seat to the addiction.

There is always hope, the sad thing is most people don't reach out for that hope until its too late.

Symptoms of hydrocodone withdrawal can appear as quickly as a few hours after the user's last dose, or they not begin for a full day. They can include:

* Excessive sweating & yawning; * Runny nose & eyes, bouts of diarrhea and vomiting; * Shivering & goose bumps * Muscle aches & cramps * Restlessness & insomnia * Irritability & anxiety * Loss of appetite * powerful cravings for the opioid that persist long after the withdrawal symptoms have passed.

Keep in mind that no two people endure hydrocodone withdrawal in precisely the same manner.

People get addicted to face book because the games are challenging your mind and making you want to play until you win. Also people get addicted because people think that if you have face book you are all cool and are now cool enough to be LIKED at school or at where ever you are.

Because of the way they make you feel, obviously. Just like alcohol, cigaretts and other addictive substances. I'm addicted to cigaretts, and I can honestly the reason why is because I enjoy them. I've takin vicodin, and I enjoy the way it makes me feel. I don't feel high neccessarily. Just happy, active, and friendly. It puts you in a good mood so of course you'll get addicted to the feeling, since it is an addictive substance.
