If people need to get across a gully or stretch of water and there is no bridge available, possible methods are:
* crossing the water using a boat, such as a ferry * fording (walking, driving or riding through the water)
* swimming * flying * going another route * using a tunnel * waiting for low tide * swinging across * jumping depending on the distance, depth etc.
they would use a boat or just do not go across town
people being less lazy-we would swim across
Ruby Bridges was determined by going to her school everyday without worrying about what the white people thought, even though she was probably too young to understand, I think that she was determined

Ruby Bridges was the first brave black child to walk in a white kids school with guards around her.White people would say 2,4,6,8 we don't appretiate, but Ruby Bridges didn't care she wanted to read and write and that's exactly what she did.
bridges are colapsing because they are old and the material that the people used is old or the people that built it did not build it right
people/men
An eternity, and then some. A car cannot be driven around the world as a standalone means of transportation - there are large bodies of water without bridges which are prohibitive to this.
People survived for thousands of years without engineering but they had to manage without all the benefits engineering brings, like electric power, engines, cars, trains, bridges and all the rest.
Without bridges you wouldn't be able to get over rivers or canyons, otherwise we would have to use ferries all the time.
