It depends on what "people like us" refers to. People who value books take care of them by putting them up when they are not reading them and not bending pages or abusing them while reading them. People who are indifferent or do not not value books as much may just toss them somewhere when they are not being read or not take care of them very well. Those people who do not value them at all don't take care of them. They may leave them where they might be damaged, bend pages while they are reading them, or even intentionally damage them.
People who appreciate books tend to treat them with care and respect. This can include keeping them clean and organizing them neatly on shelves, handling them gently while reading, and using bookmarks to save their place instead of dog-earing pages. Some may also enjoy collecting and displaying books as a form of personal expression and pride in their collection.
Treat people the way you would like to be treated

You need to speak to him and explain to him what he does, how you feel, what you would like him to do. This will work in most cases.

Some people do because they treat their pets like children. I celebrate my cats' birthdays every year. I treat them like children.
Treat others with kindness, empathy, and respect, as you would hope to be treated in return. By showing concern for others' feelings and well-being, you cultivate a positive and supportive environment for everyone.
Because they are different books :) ... i like helping people
