Living near Mount Mayon means that one is under
the government's census. This affords one access
to water, electricity, jobs, stores, and schools.
Also, those living near Mayon (some 30 kilometers away)
were among the 5,000 souls that got buried by 20 metres
of lahar that typhoon Reming had loosened from the ravines
of Mount Mayon's previous (months, weeks ago) mini eruptions.
How about upping the level?
How about living at Mount Mayon itself
where no trappings of civilization exist?
There are farmers living at a high-altitude
(who farm very little for food grows wild).
Water is abundant for it practically rains
all day (each time a cloud passes by,
the volcano is awash with rainwater).
So how does one adapt to such a hermitic life?
If one is falsely accused of a crime or a criminal,
the freedom of a mountain provides sanctuary.
If one is a New Peoples Army cadre,
the mountain's isolation is a refuge
from the shackles of an unjust society.
Besides, people from developing countries
have little choice in adapting to conditions.
But to someone like me (who farms at Mount Mayon)...
how do I adapt living there for a week then come down
and adapt anew to the drudgery and ennui to life in the city?
I am forced to adapt since I have no choice either.
The city is where I must sell our organic produce
while the mountains grow uncontaminated food.
People live near mount mayon because of the good sources that they can get. when we say good sources it means by good food, water and the jobs. Even though there are disadvantages about it these are some of the reasons why people choose to live near the volcanoes.
Hope this helps. JJJJJJJJ

In 1814, 1200 people were killed by hot rocks and ash from the erupting volcano. Houses were destroyed because the whole town was buried in ash. Also the church got destroyed. These were the Primary effects of 1814 eruption of Mayon Volcano.
