Normally they can't. I suffer from BPD and unfortunately took two overdoses because I was 'triggered' off by feeling rejected by someone who I thought would be there for me. Sometimes people with this do get help, but it is hard for them to keep up this 'routine', due to them getting easily bored, or become paranoid and refuse to leave the house etc. It's an everyday struggle and it sucks.
