The air flowing over the aerofoil shape of the wings creates lift. The upper surface of the wing is longer than the under surface. This creates a pressure difference and the wing moves upwards to try to equalize these pressures. When the lifting force is greater than the weight of the plane plus gravity trying to keep it on the ground it lifts off. Also the angle of attack into the wind during take off also acts in the same way that a moving surfboard keeps the surfer skimming on the surface of the ocean but as soon as he slows down he sinks.

What would happen to your head if it was at the center of the earth?

It, and everything inside it, would be crushed (this is, of course, if the centre of the Earth was empty, because if it wasn't, then you would be burnt to a crisp due to the immense heat fo the centre of the Earth). Your head would be crushed because gravity pulls you to the centre of the Earth, and if this is happening all over the Earth, then loads of gravity is going into one spot in the centre of the Earth. This would all push at you on all sides and subsequently crush you.
