Different species of trees compete for different things, the main thing that all trees compete for is sunlight. All trees need sunlight. To get sunlight in a forest you have to be at the top, or adapt to survive with partial sunlight.

They are also competing for water as some trees need lots of water. If it rains and the tree is at the very bottom it won't get any rain on it, because all the trees above it have already gotten it.

What plants are found in a coniferous forest?

Coniferous forests are forests made up largely of conifer trees -- trees that produce cones and needles. Softwood trees such as fir, pine, spruce, and hemlock. The coniferous forest is a forest withalot of conifer trees. The wildlife there is broad. Pines, Spruces, Firs, etc are only a couple of the vast variety of trees there. A couple of the animals that live there are the red fox, the snow leopard, the nuthatch, long-eared owl, the brown bear, the black bear, and much much more. :D In the coniferous forest the winters are long and harsh and the summers short and cool. The animals that live here adapt to these strange temperatures. There is so much more to the coniferous forest but I am running out of space.
