You don't! The letter h does not make a sound in French, although it does have some other uses:

1) It can combine with other letters. For example, ch in French makes the same sound as sh in English, and phmakes an f sound.

2) It can serve as a separation between vowels. For example, the word bahut is two syllables, with the a sound separated from the u sound. Without the h, it would look like a one-syllable homophone of beau.

3) Certain words use an h to indicate that the initial vowel sound is meant to be separate from any preceding consonant from another word. For example, you find such an h (called an aspirate h in English, h aspiré in French) in the word haricot, which means bean. In order to say the bean, you say le haricot. Compare that to a word like homme, whose initial h is not aspirate and so we say l'homme. And when you say les hiboux (the owls), you do not pronounce a z sound to link the words as in les habits (the outfits). How can you tell if an initial h is aspirate when you see a new word? Unfortunately, you can't; you just have to listen to a French speaker or look up the pronunciation in a dictionary.

In French, the H is silent when it comes before a vowel, so it is not pronounced. However, when it comes before a consonant, it is pronounced as a voiceless aspirated sound, similar to the English "h" sound.
