Animals are multicellular; most protozoans are unicellular.

For protozoans that are multicellular, the organism is built up of cells that are all the same type. Animals have cells that have differentiated and are thus more than one type in the same organism.

I believe that multicellular protozoans are a colony of combined protozoans that are all the same. For example a volvox is simply about a hundred identicle protozoans doing one thing. Animals are combinations of many different cell tissues and organs.

All protozoans are heterotrophs (meaning they eat others, like deer or wolves would, not a tree), and they can move on their own using cilia, flagella, or pseudopods (much like feet for walking, wings for flying, and tails for swimming). They are different mostly in being unicellular, not multicellular.

Protozoans are organisms that are unicellular, while animals are organisms that are multicellular. Another difference is that protozoans are un-complex while animals are very complex.

What is the smallest aniamal?

Plankton are very small, microscopic plants and animals. They have little or no power of locomotion and float in surface waters. They are found in fresh and salt water. Planktonic animals include protozoans. While they are often referred to as one-celled animals, they have characteristics found in both plants and animals. Most protozoans cannot be seen without a microscope. There are about 30,000 species of protozoans that have been identified so far!

Why are protozoans classified under animal kingdom?

Protozoans are alive. According to every animal book, an animal is anything that is alive apart from plants. Even humans are animals.
