They do live in Utah. Actually they are over populated. They are not however native to Utah and were introduced decades ago (i've heard in the 1940's - 50's) when a Disney movie was being filmed there that had raccoons in it. the cative animals were released when the filming was completed.

Raccoons do not hibernate in winter but stay in their home range and take shelter in dens or hollow trees. They are active all winter except for during severe weather when they stay in their dens and sleep until conditions improve.

Raccoons are very adaptable and can easily adjust their life style to suit the environment. Therefore, they can live quite well in a variety of habitats, from a rainforest to a desert or even major city. Since they are also omnivores they can always find a source of food.

Raccoons do not hibernate but continue to forage for food, even in winter. If the weather becomes too severe or the snow too deep, the raccoon will remain in its burrow and sleep until conditions improve.

It's also common that raccoons will find food in areas like your house so if ever that happens, you can call The Critter Guy for immediate help in removing these raccoons.
