Rats are great pets for older children like around 10 or older. But if you get a rat and you have a younger child in your home it might bite or scratch. But otherwise rats are fantastic pets to have!

My 5 month old male rats occasionally fight and blood has been drawn on one of the rats not badly just a bit is this normal how can I stop and will it get any worse as the rats get older?
I have mice and they live very happily together but they are female. With Male mice they will fight and sometimes even to death! This is not any different with male rats and it is normal for them to fight for territorial reasons. I'm not sure if their fighting will get worse as they get older or if they will just get used to each other, if not the best way to resolve the problem is to put your rats in separate cages.

If neither of the rats have seen/met another rat before it may be harder. But if the older rat has met others before it should be easy - If you do it right.
