The black mamba is the worlds fastest snake, and it slithers at 7mph
there are 3 types, sidewinding, transversal, and lateral. sidewind involing pulling the body together and then flinging the upper half up and then pulling the rest. transversal, the most common, is where each section of body serves as an anchor to pull the rest. lateral, which is most commonly used by constrictors, is where each scale pull the body along in a straight line
Wow, I can't believe nobody's answered this! So here you go...
If you look on the bellies of snakes, they have a row of wide scales all the way down their bodies. These scales are called scutes. Snakes have a very complex muscle system that incorporates these scutes into their movement. They have literally hundreds of ribs, each with its own muscles. They have one pair of ribs for every scute. These ribs can move individually and can therefore control the scute below. To put it simply, they use their ribs to move these scutes, which push back on the ground, thus moving them forward. It is a very primitive, yet very efficient, form of moevment.
I should mention that this is how MOST snakes move. Sidewinders, for example, move very differently and don't slither at all.
Snakes move by contacting their muscles in a wave type pattern.

snakes when in water have big flippers that extend out of their middle body that make them glide like snails on water
Snakes are reptiles, they don't have legs, but they move about by means of scutes- are bony plates under the skin..
Snakes do not walk because they do not have legs. They slither.
snakes glide by stretching their muscles and the air helps them to glide
All snakes can swim.
Sea snakes swim by using their flat body to interwieve, turning their body left to right.
Yes they can. The opening to their lungs is in the form of a muscular tube that can be closed when required. Even snakes that are normally land-dwellers have the ability to bite while in water.
just like poisonous snakes do and basically the same way they do on land but allot faster.
Yes, they can swim.

Snakes can swim
All snakes swim and few snakes dive, some of the most venomous snakes in the world however dive below the water and swim there as opposed to on the surface.
Yes, they can swim. They do in the wild. -Bri-
You can only swim in water, not in sand. No animal can swim in sand.
