Soldiers were to surrender. They were permitted to keep their horses for plowing, and to keep their sidearms (pistols and swords) Other arms and artillery were to be surrendered and stacked. Officers would be paroled (agreed not to fight) and would sign paroles on behalf of their soldiers.

In Japan women were equal to men, thus a women could become a samurai. In Europe Women weren't treated equal to men, thus they couldn't become knights. Samurai soldiers slept with their swords because they were scared of their wives, European soldiers didn't.

The sword was mostly used to issue commands in battle and the bayonet was used to hold food the regiment had killed while hunting and it could also be used to hold candles.
