They don't. The stars are nuch more distant than the moon. Consider this for how much further away the stars are:

Light, which travels at a constant speed, takes a little more than a second to travel from the moon to Earth. Light from Proxima Centauri, the nearest star other than the sun, takes more than 4 years to reach Earth.
