The Caspian Sea is the largest lake on Earth, and it is located between Asia and Europe. However, it is salty, not fresh. The largest freshwater lake in Asia is Lake Baikal.
Largest: Caspian sea(371,000 sq. km.) Longest: Caspian sea (1,223 km.) Deepest: lake baikal ( 1,620 m. below sea level)
Lake Baikal is a freshwater lake because it has an outflow, the Angara River, so the salinity coming from the rivers does not accumulate in the lake, because it flows out through the Angara and Yenisei rivers and reaches the Arctic Ocean. The Caspian and Aral seas have no outflows, so the salt that comes from the rivers accumulates in the lakes.
The world's largest lake is the Caspian Sea which is completely enclosed by Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. The world's deepest lake is Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia, at 1,638 metres deep.
Caspian Sea and Lake Baikal. Lakes are defined as considerable inland bodies of freshwater. The Caspian Sea is considered by scholars to be the largest lake in the world. However, it has a salinity about one third of the oceans. The black sea is sometimes considered to be a lake but its salinity is about 60 percent of the oceans. Lake Baikal has more water volume than all of the great lakes combined.
