Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 2nd. It is a day when the veil between the living and the deceased is supposed to be thin. So people construct amazing kites with messages for the departed on their tails. They also decorate the graves and graveyard and have a celebration there. They make a traditional dish called fiambre. They also build altars in their homes and bake breads and sweets that look like bones, skulls, and coffins.
I remember living in Mexico and celebrating this even now I live in the US and still celebrate this. We cook offerings for the dead (CHOCOLATE! is big). We often take it to the cemetery and spend the whole day with the dead; Dancing, Drinks, we wait to eat until the next day. If we didnt have access to a cemetery we do it at home exactly the same. ALWAYS reciting prayer for the dead. you pretty much throw a party for the dead. RESPECT is a must if you visit the cemetery.BY SAJJAD RAHMAN NEWCASTLE
