the number of representatives each state has is based on the total population. i think that's called proportional representation and i think they use some sort of math formula to come up with a number.
By the size of the state. Bigger states have more representatives while smaller states have less representatives. The size of the population, not the size in area, is the determining factor.
The number of US Representatives per state is proportional to the population of that state. Each state must have at least one seat, and the remainder of the total of 435 seats are apportioned according to the US Census conducted every 10 years. Based on the comparative increase or decrease of their percentage of the total population, states may gain or lose seats.

they collect the census every ten years to see what each states population is and base it off that.

each state is awarded one vote, regardless of how many representatives the state has.
The number of representatives is proportional to the number of districts within a state. The number of districts is determined by population as reported in the census.
Each state gets two Senators; House of Representatives members are given by population. Both together equal a state's electoral votes.

The federal government set the total number of representatives at 435. How these 435 are distributed is based upon the population of the state, which is determined by the census.
2 Every State has an equal number of Senators---2. And they have to go to Washington DC to serve their state. In addition, each state has a number of Representatives who serve in the House of Representatives. The number of each state is determine by their population. However, each state has its State government and these senators go to the capitol of their State to decide laws for the State.
It depends on the size/population of the state. Not every state has the same number of representatives.
