They might of came from a disaster for example like by struck by lightning and the whole city died this is a world/current event that might be happening right now? The point is that anything to do with weather can hurt our planet and same with lightning and thunder storms they could damage our world and we could not know it ? ! (: And this would be recorded in history and it would go in our Social Studies book ?

(in my opinion) This is because when people discover new things about the studies of way back when, it can become very social, Also, it is still social although we discovered it long ago.
