A veterinarian spends their days treating animals with surgery or general care. Vets can also conduct research throughout the day.
Among the obvious, curing animals of illnesses etc. A vet doesnt have the most pleasant occupation, you will have to practice dissecting animals and looking at the insides so you are aware of how they work.

You will have to get A*'s in most of your GCSE options, vets are becoming more and more popular so you will have to risk and suffer the consequences of rare job oppurtunities and worser pay. :/

Don't be a vet if your an animal lover or a softie because you'll have to face animal guts, and putting creatures down etc.

It's a good job to have, but not quite like they make out :) x
Most veterinarians choose to pursue private practice. In this career path, veterinarians examine, diagnose and treat domesticated animals. This includes performing surgery, running various types of lab tests (blood work, culture and sensitivity testing, histopathology samples, etc.), administering drugs and vaccines and communicating with owners and the general public.
"Veterinarians' duties depend upon the areas in which they work. Many veterinarians treat small companion animals. As a small animal vet, you may perform services such as spaying and neutering, setting broken bones, treating wounds and providing geriatric care for older pets. You might also take X-rays and dispense prescription medicine for animals with illnesses. Other job duties include inoculating pets against diseases and performing surgeries and euthanasia if necessary.

Veterinarians who care for large animals often engage in production medicine, which involves treating an entire herd to prevent disease. As a large animal vet, you may also advise farm owners on animal feeding and production concerns, as well as maintaining sanitary conditions. Working in food inspection as a veterinarian, you ensure animals proceeding to slaughter are treated humanely and that the edible products derived from them are safe to consume.
In private practice, a veterinarian will:

  • diagnose animal health problems
  • vaccinate against diseases, such as distemper and rabies
  • medicate animals suffering from infections or illnesses
  • treat and dress wounds
  • set fractures
  • perform surgery
  • advise owners about animal feeding, behavior, and breeding
  • euthanize animals when necessary
  • provide preventive care to maintain the health of food animals
  • test for and vaccinate against diseases
  • consult with farm or ranch owners and managers on animal production, feeding, and housing issues
  • treat and dress wounds, set fractures, and perform surgery
  • update and review medical records

Veterinarian that work outside of private practice do anything such as inspect food for bacteria and diseases, design and carry out research experiments, coordinate with international NGOs on wildlife habitat preservation, track outbreaks of diseases and even become an astronaut.
