Historians know about the Xia dynasty because of stories. Archaeologists have not yet found evidence of this dynasty, so many believe that it never existed. Chinese people honor these stories, though.
western historians deny its existence because they want to see text from that era to prove they could record their history; today, people can only find Xia dynasty from later historical records and limited archaeological discoveries.
because people told stories about how the first dynasty was the XIA DYNASTY
It is hard to say because there is slim evidence that there that around 2000 B.C., a dynasty called the Xia (pronounced Syah) existed. Some historians do not believe this dynasty was ever real and only a myth. I think the Xia dynasty was real so speaking from my point of view, the Qin (pronounced Chin) dynasty was the fourth. But if you don't think the Xia dynasty existed than the Han dynasty is the fourth.
According to some of the earliest records of the Shang, the first dynasty was the Xia dynasty. But some historians believe this dynasty is a myth. I think the Xia dynasty really was an existent dynasty however so I would say it is the earliest. It started at about 2000 B.C. and ended at about 1600 B.C.
The Xia dynasty was started by Yu the Great.
"For many years, the Xia Dynasty was thought to be a part of a myth that the Chinese tell as part of their history. The Xia Dynasty was in oral histories, but no archaeological evidence was found of it until 1959. Excavations at Erlitous, in the city of Yanshi, uncovered what was most likely a capital of the Xia Dynasty. The site showed that the people were direct ancestors of the Lungshan and were predecessors of the Shang. Radiocarbon dates from this site indicate that they existed from 2100 to 1800 B.C. Despite this new archaeological evidence of the Xia, they are not universally accepted as a true dynasty. "The Xia were agrarian people, with bronze weapons and pottery. The ruling families used elaborate and dramatic rituals to confirm their power to govern. The rulers often acted as shamans, communicating with spirits for help and guidance."
King yu was the first King/Empoeror of the xia Dynasty
