Whales are mammals like us and give live birth like us. Underwater, close to the surface. The baby comes out tail-first so it doesn't drown during the process. When it's out, it immediately swims to the surface for its first breath, and then it swims along with the mother.

Whales are mammals, so they reproduce in typical mammalian fashion, i.e. through copulation. Being marine mammals, the males (bulls) as well as the females (cows) store their reproductive organs internally, to reduce drag while swimming. During copulation, the bull forces his penis out of the genital slit on his underside and maneuvers it into the corresponding slit on the cow. Whales are unique among mammals in general in that they do not thrust during copulation, instead swimming together, with the cow upside-down beneath the bull, while his sperm is deposited into her. Gestation times vary between whale species, but most give birth between 18-20 months after pregnancy. Whale calves are born headfirst, with their mothers tilting their undersides to the surface slightly. Labor does not last too long, as water is an excellent lubricant and calves need air as soon as their head emerges. The first thing a calf does after being born is swim to surface to take a huge gulp of air, then it returns to suckle on its mother's milk.

First there is a courtship period, in which the whales will fight for the most suitable females. Some whales will mate with multiple males to increase the chance of pregnancy. After the act of intercourse, there is a gestation (pregnancy) period, similar to that of most mammals which lasts anywhere form 10 to 17 months. The whale will then take care of it's offspring for 7 - 10 years before they are ready to produce offspring of their own.

Whales make babies like other mammals do, except a little different process. Animals process of creating a baby is much different from a human's way of creating a baby.
