As we know there are seven color in a light. It travels in a same velocity when it passes through air, but when it passes through prism different color travels with different velocity, as a result the emergent light is seen in seven color. Ther are; voilent,indigo,blue,green,yellow,red,orange.....

When white light waves enter a prism, they are refracted (bent) and separated into different colors because different colors of light have different wavelengths. This separation is due to the phenomenon of dispersion, as the different colors of light travel at slightly different speeds through the prism.

A prism is a device that separates white light waves into the colors of visible light Which of the following processes allows a prism to work?

Refraction

Why light get scatter when passed through a prism?

White light contains all the colors of a rainbow in the form of waves which have different wavelengths. So when light is passed through a prism, the waves appears to be scattered because some waves have less refraction and some waves have more refraction due to their wavelengths.

Why do you see a rainbow when white light is sent through a prism?

because it refracts in different ways and waves

Why does white light change colour when it passes through a prism?

It doesn't. What happens is that the colors that are already in it are separated by the prism. It's basically because short waves (blue) are refracted more than long waves (red).

Does the colour of incoming light affect the pattern of the prism?

Sure. The prism just spreads out the wavelengths that enter it. No color can come out of the prism that didn't go into the prism. When white light goes in, you see all colors come out, because white light is a mix of all colors. But if the light that entered the prism was a mix of only red and blue, then all you'd see come out would be a red stripe and a blue stripe, with no light in between them.

Why does the spectrum appear when White light is shone into a prism?

because the prism splits the white light into all colors of visible light

Why do the colors split up in the spectrum?

White light can be split up into lots of different coloured light waves using a prism. We call this range of colours the visible spectrum.

What causes a prism to show colored light when you look into white light?

This is because when the white light it's the prism, the colours separate and change speeds.

What bends white light?

prism

What can be separated with a prism?

White light.

Why do the colors in the electromagnetic spectrum split up?
