Suicide Help

We care about you and we want you to seek help if you or someone you know or love are possibly contemplating suicide.

It is not the answer to anything. It only causes grief, will affect the mental health of those close to you, and may increase the likelihood of their considering suicide themselves.

You can call people for assistance.

  • In the US you can call 1-800-784-2433 (toll-free)
  • In the UK you can call 08457 90 90 90
  • In Ireland you can call 1850 60 90 90
  • In Australia you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 (local call)
  • In Australia you can call Kids Help Line on 1800 55 1800 (toll-free)

If you are asking a legitimate question because you are planning to kill yourself, call 911 in the USA, 999 in the UK, 112 in Europe and UK, or the emergency number for the country you are in, right now, and tell them that.

Please talk to a counselor about your problems, nothing is bad enough to be worth taking your own life.

If you are at the point where you really feel it's better to die than to go on living, then you have hit bottom, and once you hit bottom, there's really no place else to go but up. So what have you got to lose by staying for the ride back up? You have far, far more to gain by going up, and absolutely nothing to lose by taking that trip back up, to the place where your life can be happy and fulfilling.

If your life is at a place where suicide seems better than going on, think about some very important things. Life can turn from horrible to wonderful in a very short period of time. Your life, whether you know it today or not, has a positive impact on someone. It might be your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors... there is someone that knows you in a way that you can't see.

Suicide is permanent... there's no turning back. The deep feelings you have today will be different tomorrow; regardless of how down you feel, you'll have something tomorrow that can, if you let it, make you feel better. Our problems are often so great, so real and feel so devastating that leaving life behind seems like the only answer. But it's not an answer. It leaves many, many questions for anyone we leave.

Please sleep. Please cry hard, if you must, and talk to someone who loves you. But please, also, put the idea of making a permanent end to what could be temporary problems out of your head. Every life has purpose. Every single life. Please try to find yours before thinking about killing yourself.

No matter how bad it is right now, it can only get better- when you are down try doing something nice for someone else. It sounds a little lame but it works, scientifically it's called a helper's high. It gets your mind off depressing things and helps you add value to society and confidence for yourself.

Suicide is illegal in many countries (WikiAnswers cannot facilitate the commission of any crime) and besides we care about you and want you to live.

Call your suicide hotline immediately and speak to someone who will understand.

Listen to them and get them help immediately. Usually people's lives can be saved by treated a depressed person. Be there for them and guide them to a better place.

If they are in immediate danger of taking their own life. Contact the emergency services immediately. If the is sufficient reason to, they person can be held for psychiatric observation for a period of time defined the the laws relevant in the state, city, county, country or nation.

In the UK, a person can be held for up to 24 hours, and if found to be psychologically unstable and potentially suicidal, they can be held for up to 28 days.

You need to be there for them. If they are seriously thinking about suicide, then you need to be with them and not leave them alone in a room by themselves and take away all objects that could be used as weapons, such as knifes, pencils, paper, etc... If they really are in pain, take them to the Emergency Room and they can help. If you aren't in a position where you can be with them, then call the police. They can help also. Try and keep them on the phone as long as you can until the police can get there. Give them some of the suicide hotline numbers in case you can't be there to help them. Offer to go with that person to see their doctor about some anti-depressants or other forms of medications that can help out. Check up on them to make sure they are taking them as much as needed. Do little things for them that would make them realize how special they are, like writing them a letter, taking them out to lunch sometime, going out at 9 PM and eating an ice cream cone... Just little fun things that make them feel special. Don't get frustrated with the person, beucase sometimes, they can't really help it. It's just something that needs to be taken care of properly, and if people don't handle it the right way, it could make things worse. Be patient and loving, and try to understand to the the best of your ability. Even if you can't even do anything but just be with that person, it may help even to the smallest degree to help out that person in need.

If husband says he hates his life and wants to kill himself?

AnswerTry and get him to talk to you and tell you what is going on and why he feels that way. If he will not open up to you he needs to talk with someone else who can help him work through whatever is going on. When someone talks of wanting to kill themselves you never know if they really will or not. He is very troubled by something and really, really needs to talk with someone (even if it's a counselor) and get to the issues that are going on with him and try and get them resolved as much as possible.
