this is for a 99 contour se, don't know if they are all the same

if it is the mirrored glass that is cracked:pop the glass off. that's right, it just pops off like LEGO's. its a piece of glass on a pice of hard plastic, and the whole assebly will just pop out. then get a new glass assy from a dealer or junkyard. (they are like 5 bucks at a junkyard, about 15 at dealer)you can even trade the glass from driver to passenger side if you need one more than the other until you get it fixed. another temp fix is to get that mirror replacement stuff at an auto zone or napa or discount auto, but you will learn that the cut it yourself temporary mirror stuff is definitely just temporary.

if it is the mirror casing that's broke:read through the other contour faq's. they answer it a few times

I hate to say it, probably nothing can be done to fix it. You can take it to a glass shop and have it resized to remove the chipped part and repolished to curve the edge and you will have a slightly smaller, but useful mirror again. Make sure to replace the hook back to center if resized or else it will lean one way.

I have the same issue- I am going to try and put some acquarium adhesive from the hardware store to put a semi-clear soft corner on the mirror- it is not broken much- very tiny chip broken off at the corner- but it is very sharp. I want to try and file it down and round it off but I am not sure I can without breaking the mirror.

I'm not sure that you can. At least that you can, and it will look good! But maybe you can work around this hole, depending on where it is on the mirror. If it is close to the edge, get some decorative beads, even mirror pieces and create a border around the entire mirror that will hide the goof and give you a cool new look. If it is dead center, buy a larger piece of mirror, glue it to the old mirror centering over the hole, put some trim around the piece you glued on and give yourself a piece of artwork!

Mirrors are an attractive way to add light, space and decoration to a room. However, like any other furnishings they can become less attractive with age, or simply become damaged. There are plenty of ways to repair a mirror, although you should carefully consider whether it would be cheaper or more effective simply to replace it. If you have a broken, scratched or desilvered mirror in your home, here are some great tips for mirror repair and restoration: Decide If Repair Is Worth It: Consider how much it will cost to repair the mirror with how much it would cost to simple replace it entirely. Remember that simple bathroom or closet mirrors are quite inexpensive and it may be easier and less time consuming simply to replace a broken mirror rather than repair it. Of course, with antique or specialty mirrors, replacement it not an option. In those cases, proceed with the mirror repair tips offered below. Repairing a Minor Crack: If there is only a small crack visible in your mirror, it can be a simple thing to fix. You will need to purchase a glass repair kit, which can be found in many auto stores and even craft or hobby stores. Clean the crack and the mirror carefully to ensure there is no dust or debris buildup. Then, peel off the sticky backing of the stabilizer included in the repair kit and apply it to the crack, making sure it is flush with the surface of the mirror. Inject the resin through the stabilizer until the crack is completely full. Once it has dried for as long as recommended with each individual product, peel back the stabilizer. Your mirror should no longer have a crack, but may need to be polished. Repair a Desilvered Mirror: When the edges of a mirror begin to turn darker colors, they will often be considered too old. However, they can be repaired with just a little effort. You will need to rub some quicksilver on a large piece of foil before placing the foil on the darkened edge of the mirror. After several hours of pressure, the foil will adhere to the glass permanently.

To get scratch marks off of a mirror, rub toothpaste on the mirror and wipe off. You may also mix mustard powder with vinegar and wipe with a cloth.

You can't, but if it is valuable or of particular sentimental value, you can get it resilvered - all you have to do is find someone or somewhere to do the job.
