If it's a high torque (small-body) starter like the one that I used to have you have to take the front passenger's side wheel off, open the little access cover, take off the bolts (I think you have to get under the car to do one of the bolts) and then disconnect the wiring (should be two or three wires). Then it's just a matter of guiding the thing out of there.
Also, you'll need to think of some way of remembering which wires go where. Of course, disconnect the battery before you do anything else. If you have little or no experience working on cars and starters, this is not a job to start learning on.
Good luck.
Sounds like the starter is "dragging" - happens when the bushings are worn. Can be overhauled if you are mechanicaly inclined, otherwise replace the starter.
To change the starter on a GMC Jimmy 95 you must look under the truck and locate the starter. There will be a bar in the way of removing the starter. You will have to remove the two screws and manuver the starter around the bar. This will be tricky so take your time. Once you remove the starter replace with the new one and manuver back in place screw in and your done.
My 2000 GMC Jimmy is slow cranking. The battery voltage meter is showing charged so I am assuming that the starter is the problem. Where do I find the starter to remove it?
