How do you change the rear indicator bulb on a Peugeot 308 SW?
The manual for the 308SW is very misleading. I'll be generous
and say it is perhaps a bad translation from the original french
version but nevertheless could result in an expensive replacement
of a broken rear light cluster.
The manual says to remove the two bolts holding the assembly in
place. This part is correct. You'll need an Allen key attachment to
your screwdriver for this.
Next it says to pivot the assembly out and shows a picture of
the assembly being swiveled through 90 degrees. This is completely
wrong. The unit does not pivot and trying to can result in snapping
the plastic.
The unit is secured by a pin similar to the pin on a chair
castor. You need to insert a small screwdriver at the top of the
assembly and gently lever it backwards away from the vehicle whilst
pulling backwards at the same time. Do not pivot or swivel the unit
- it comes straight back. The pin will pop out of its hole and the
unit pulls off.
Now you can unclip the wiring and then unclip the bulb support
from the coloured section. Replace the bulb and reverse the
procedure.
This cost me £20 at the local Peugeot dealer to watch the
engineer do the work, but I'll know next time.
