You can invite friends by going to their channel page. Scroll down a bit, and right next to their profile picture and under the yellow "Subscribe" button, you will see a link that says "Invite Friend". Click on that, and a friend invitation will be sent to them from you. If they accept the invite, then they have become your "friend".
