On the DOHC Duratec engine (don't know if it's different), the low side port for adding refrigerant is in the back left hand corner.
Beyond that, follow the directions as supplied with the refill 'kit'.
134a refrigerant
Refrigerant is added to a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am by removing the cover on the low pressure coolant line and attaching a can of refrigerant. The valve on the can is then opened and the system will automatically pull the refrigerant in.
Professional help is the best answer. $75.00 or less if it R134 and conversion necessary if it R12 ($150.00). Do not get suckered. Get a few prices before committing.

Refrigerant is added to a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire by removing the safety cap on the low pressure cooling line at the rear of the engine compartment. The charging line is then hooked up and refrigerant added until the pressure reaches specified levels.
You need a refrigerant recovery system and gauges to do it properly.
Add fluid at the same place you check the level. You will need a long neck funnel.
