Refrigerant is added to a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am by removing the cover on the low pressure coolant line and attaching a can of refrigerant. The valve on the can is then opened and the system will automatically pull the refrigerant in.
There's no dipstick on a Sunfire that new. You need to add fluid at the transaxle itself. There's a plug in the side of the transaxle that needs to be removed to check or fill the fluid.

To add refrigerant (often referred to as Freon) to a 2003 Pontiac GTP, locate the low-pressure service port on the air conditioning system. This port is typically found on the larger diameter aluminum line running from the compressor. Remove the cap from the port, attach the refrigerant can's nozzle, and follow the instructions on the can to add refrigerant while the engine and AC are running. Always ensure proper safety measures and check for leaks after adding refrigerant.

I have a 2001 pontiac sunfire, and at the time I could not find the transmission. The manual said to add four quarts, and I did.How will I know if the transmission is circulating.
where is the port to add freon in a 1997 mitsubishi montero sport
To add Freon to a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, locate the air conditioning service ports under the hood. The low-pressure service port is typically found on the larger diameter aluminum line, usually closer to the firewall. After identifying the port, attach the refrigerant gauge or canister and follow the instructions on the refrigerant can to add Freon. Always ensure the engine is running and the AC is set to the maximum cool setting while adding refrigerant.
You need to convert the AC system to R-134a type freon first (retrofit kit). Then you charge it on the low pressure side.
The power steering reservoir is underneath the alternator by the firewall.
There are two ports in the AC piping under the hood. They are about 1/2 inch in diameter and have threaded caps. They're hard to miss. One is in the high pressure side and the other is in the low pressure side. Frankly, I don't know in which side you would add the refrigerant, but it's done with a kit .... a can of fridge stuff and a hose that threads onto the connector. Definitely do a little research before trying to recharge the system! FriPilot
